Welcome To Public Works Department

Public Works Department or commonly known as JKR / Jabatan Kerja Raya was established for more than 100 years ago in the year 1906. Pwd was established earlier with the Department of Administration and Finance (DAF), Department of Building Services (DBS), Department of Development (DOD) and Department of Water Services (DWS) under the supervision of the Director and the Assistant Director.

The first Director was Dato Edmund Robert.

In the End of 1960's, the position of Director was taken over by Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Talib bin Darwish as the first Local Director in PWD's History.

3rd February 1993, the status of Director was adjusted to Director General and Assistant Director's status to Deputy Director General. At the same time, the Assistant Directors for every department was move upward to Directors while other 2 new department and Director's post was created, Department of Technical Services (DTS) and Department of Drainage and Sewerage (DDS).
